Latin America wears green – Youth #LEBolution project

During the WLCU Youth Congress of Latin America and the Caribbean Council held in Chile in September, the young Lebanese descents who came from all corners of the continent agreed to create an environmental campaign under the umbrella of the #LEBolution project.

It was launched yesterday on 15 December 2014 and will last, in its first phase (online), one month.

In addition to the common blood, the youth of Lebanese descent living in Latin America have a common awareness about environmental care. This was first expressed in Lebanon, during a working meeting held in the mountain of Zaaroor in July 2014.

On that occasion, the youth of the WLCU, who came from all corners of the world, unanimously expressed their concern regarding the lack of existing environmental care in Lebanon today. Although the country of the (almost extinct) cedars bears a startling natural beauty, the lack of concern about recycling and garbage management is evident, disrupting the overall beauty of the landscape. Consequently, during the Latin American Council Congress held in Chile between 19 and 21 September 2014, the Lebanese youth from Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia and Guatemala decided in a second step after that first meeting in Lebanon, to start an environmental campaign and help raise awareness about recycling, proper use of water and the planting of trees to preserve our planet.

From Latin America, a green continent where advanced techniques and campaigns for environmental preservation have already been implemented, we intend to send a positive message, aiming to spread and excite our peers in Lebanon to join this “green movement”.

The youth from the various Lebanese branches of Latin America will be displaying pictures of themselves with messages that promote this environmental initiative.

This campaign has two steps. The first step is “to vitalize” through the various social networks these evocative images and also to publish on the web various articles of environmentalist NGOs contributing to the mission of raising awareness and providing solid information about the importance of preserving our planet. The second step is to take ground in Lebanon, applying possible environmental solutions to mitigate the problem that afflicts the country.

Under the umbrella of the #LEBolution project born in Lebanon last July with the World Lebanese Cultural Union Youth, young Lebanese emigrants will meet this year in Lebanon between 20 and 30 July 2015 of which one of the days will include a concrete implementation of this campaign. The details of the activities are to be defined, but the WLCUY is already intending to visit schools and teach children the importance of recycling and managing waste through a program created in partnership with the NGOs that will be in collaboration with this environmental campaign.

Lebanese youths from other continents are also invited to participate by contributing with their photos. Please contact nissrin.esber@gmail.com for further details.
