Lebanese Gastronomic Festival in Colombia

Bogotá, Colombia

Since the group’s formation in 2016, JUCOLI – Colombia’s WLCU Youth chapter – has given special importance to Lebanese cuisine as one of the main pillars of Lebanese culture, and their latest event was no exception! Between April 24th and 29th, a Lebanese gastronomic festival was held in Bogotá as a joint initiative between the Lebanese Embassy in Bogotá and the various WLCU institutions in the city: The Lebanese-Colombian Club, Our Lady of Lebanon, the Colombian-Lebanese Ladies Association, the WLCU Colombia National Chapter and Juventud Colombo Libanesa (JUCOLI). These institutions got together to bring Kamil Bouloot, Executive Chef from Ghia Holding, to be the main star of the event which saw over 350 attendees throughout the five days!

The festival had three workshops held on April 24th, 25th & 27th, each one with its own variety of traditional Lebanese dishes presented with a modern touch, including shrimp fatteh, mhamara,  quinoa tabbouleh, chicken frikkeh, beef shawarma and, of course, knefe.

April 26th and 28th saw large dinners held at the Colombian-Lebanese Club, where chef Bouloot displayed the best of his abilities through a wide selection of hot and cold mezze, two main dishes each day quinoa siyaidiyeh & roasted lamb, and the second night chicken frikkeh & beef shawarma  , and desserts. Attendants also witnessed a bellydance presentation by a local group in which Andrea Nohra, active JUCOLI member, was one of the dancers to take center stage.

We are proud to share JUCOLI’s experience in the first of many gastronomic festivals! Special thanks to all the institutions that took part!
