World Lebanese Cultural Union
The World President Alejandro Kuri Pheres visited Brazil and traveled to Belo Horizonte in the State of Minas Gerais to participate of the ceremony honoring former Chairman Charles Lotfi and the new elected Board of Confelibra.
Khalil Chater was elected President of the Board of the National Confederation of the Lebanese Brazilian Clubs and Associations, CONFELIBRA, for a three years mandate (2014-2017).
The Election Committee chaired by Charles Lotfi organized the elections which took place on the afternoon of Saturday September 27, 2014 in the presence of the presidents of the state federations all over Brazil and the Presidents of all divisions of CONFELIBRA.
The Gala Dinner
WP Alejandro Kuri Pheres participated in the gala dinner which was held after the meeting in honor of the new Board, in addition to members of the General Assembly. He addressed the new President of the Confelibra congratulating him and wishing him all success in its new duties, emphasizing the strength of the relationship between the WLCU and the Confelibra.
Chater responded by welcoming the attendees and thanked them to trust him with his election as the new President of the Confederation and in particular welcomed the President of the WLCU Alejandro Kuri Pheres and thanked him for coming, saying that his presence is a huge honor for the Union. He added that he hopes for more cooperation between the Union and the Confederation.
He then introduced the programme of work for the next three years.
During the ceremony the former Chairman and Founder of the Confelibra, Charles Lotfi, was honored as a token of appreciation for his efforts in the Confederation for over 32 years.
After receiving an honorary shield from WLCU, Lotfi gave a speech thanking the Union to honor him, congratulating the new administrative body headed by Kalil Chater and wished them success in their duties and lift the Confederation high.
He also thanked the presence of the President of the World Lebanese Cultural Union, adding that his attendance is a pride for the Confelibra.
In conclusion, WP Alejandro Kuri Pheres awarded the WLCU 50 years gold medal to the presidents of the clubs and federations and to other prominent distinguished members of the Lebanese Community.
