This MOU comes after months of talks with LAU and the Summer Institute for Intensive Arabic Language and Culture (SINARC), and this summer’s collaboration during the WLCUY’s LEBolution trip. During the trip, the 200 participants spent a day at the university where they had the opportunity to hear about LAU’s and SINARC’s academic programs as well as to participate in a symposium on contemporary Lebanon.

The main points of the MOU include:

  • collaborative work in organizing programs and workshops related to the Arabic language and the Lebanese dialect, especially for the benefit of Lebanese emigrants;
  • highlighting the importance of language in fostering ties between the Lebanese in Lebanon and abroad;
  • and conducting research concerning Lebanese emigration and diaspora and stressing their significance abroad.

This milestone represents a big step forward for the WLCU Youth, giving the chance to the members of our Youth to build and develop a strong connection with our roots, and showing tremendous potential particularly for the younger, 3rd and 4th generation emigrants whose link to Lebanon and its language has diluted over time.

The WLCU World Council for Youth extends its deepest appreciations to Dr. Jabbra; Mrs. Abdul Rahman; LAU Vice President for Student Development and Enrollment Management, Mrs. Elise Salem; and Lead SINARC Associate, Mrs. Micheline Saadeh.

Micheline Saadeh.
