The second edition of the WLCU World Council for Youth (WLCUY) #SHEis campaign has concluded! Once again this year, a loaded month-long campaign in honour and commemoration of International Women’s Day and Lebanese Mother’s Day was constructed for March.
International Women’s Day, celebrated on March 8th, 2020, is globally recognized day to raise awareness against bias, celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women, taking action towards accelerating gender parity; and Lebanese Mother’s Day, a celebration on March 21st, honouring the mother of the family, as well as motherhood, maternal bonds, and the influence of mothers in society.
March is for the Women!

Due to the phenomenal impact of the campaign’s last edition, where #SHEis caught the attention of many influential beings including Lebanese author, journalist and women’s rights activist, Ms. Joumana Haddad, they quickly recognized that this was not only a campaign raising awareness and educating on successes and accomplishments but an initiative where the Lebanese youths voices were projected and heard throughout the world.

This year, the campaign built together by a group of WLCUY women from Australia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia and France, created a medley of collective historical points on women heroes dating back to the early 1900s, crediting the Hivos’ NGO Women Empowered for Leadership Program and their extensive “History of the Women’s Movement in Lebanon” timeline as well as bringing the focus on empowering Lebanese women closer to home, recognizing inspirational women within our communities thanks to help of our WLCUY chapters and members who nominated an accomplished lady in their country, helping us deliver our message!
