To all Lebanese in Canada, visit, sign and share the petition!<\/p><\/div>\n

On December 12, 2016, I sponsored the petition e-721 that was added to the Parliamentary website for individuals (Canadians and residents) to sign. The petition calls on the Government of Canada to consider granting once again the license for direct flights between Canada and Lebanon, to Air Canada. Currently, all flights to Beirut from Canada require a layover in other countries.
\nLebanon is currently the largest transatlantic market not directly served from Canada (a total of 380 passengers per day in the busiest months travel between Lebanon and Canada using a number of routings) and Lebanese communities across Canada and North America. In addition, a Montreal-Beirut service would be a major step in the development of the Montreal airport and would further establish Montreal as a unique global francophone hub airport on the North American continent, alongside destinations such as Paris, Lyon, Nice, Brussels, Geneva, Casablanca, Marseille, Algiers and Port-au-Prince. The resulting growth from this traffic would be a significant economic boost to not only the airport but the greater Montreal area.<\/p>\n

La p\u00e9tition appelle au Gouvernement du Canada \u00e0 envisager d\u2019accorder \u00e0 nouveau \u00e0 Air Canada une licence d\u2019exploitation de vols directs entre le Canada et le Liban. Actuellement, tous les passagers \u00e0 destination de Beyrouth depuis le Canada doivent faire escale dans un pays tiers.
\nLe Liban est actuellement le plus important march\u00e9 transatlantique non desservi directement depuis le Canada; or, y voyagent jusqu\u2019\u00e0 380 passagers par jour pendant la haute saison, de partout au Canada et en Am\u00e9rique du Nord. De plus, une liaison Montr\u00e9al-Beyrouth contribuerait au d\u00e9veloppement de l\u2019a\u00e9roport de Montr\u00e9al et consoliderait la position de Montr\u00e9al comme plaque tournante francophone sur le continent nord-am\u00e9ricain, la hissant au m\u00eame rang que des destinations comme Paris, Lyon, Nice, Bruxelles, Gen\u00e8ve, Casablanca, Marseille, Alger et Port-au-Prince. Enfin, la consid\u00e9rable croissance attribuable \u00e0 cet itin\u00e9raire b\u00e9n\u00e9ficierait non seulement \u00e0 l\u2019a\u00e9roport, mais \u00e9galement \u00e0 la grande r\u00e9gion montr\u00e9alaise.
