It is a book which treated many aspects of the religious issue through time, and religion\u2019s relation to the rest of sciences such as psychology, sociology and philosophy of religion. Important focus is on the dialogue of religions as well as cultural and social manifestations that bring religions together.<\/p>\n The seven chapters of this book address all aspects of the religious question. It deals with the emergence of religion as an anthropological issue relating to man and his longing for a strong being based on him and compensates for his weakness and helplessness. As for forms of expression of religion, the writer takes the sociological dimension which is expressed through religious rites and practices through the moral path, organizing community life through customs and traditions.<\/p>\n Hence the religious heritage, which is a cultural heritage at the same time because it includes beliefs on the one hand, rituals, customs and traditions associated with religious heritage on the other hand. Dr. Farah lit up the writer\u2019s treatment of religious heritage that sometimes looks as philosopher Kant who viewed God as the guarantor of all moral constructs, and other times as Heidegger when he makes the phenomenon a starting point and a source of human consciousness for himself and for the universe, and at other times as Hegel in his Dialectical methodology. She focuses on the second and third sections of the book, which are clearly related to the subject of the symposium. The topics of this book are presented in a philosophical context that is addressed in the light of ancient and modern philosophy. Guitton (1901-1999) is a French Catholic philosopher, married. He suffered Nazi prison in war and became a member of the French Academy in 1961. He participated in the Second Vatican Council and became a close friend of Pope Paul VI.<\/p>\n Guitton always looks for the unity of human being and love. He respects both sexual and spiritual love poles. He contradicts Sartre\u2019s view in which he represents love as domination and possession of the beloved one. He is also opposed to the view of other philosophers as Nietzche and Schopenhauer who see love as an elongated trap for human being of man by the architect of beings. Guitton rejects the complete separation between the body and the soul as in the philosophy of Plato. He also criticizes Freud’s analysis. Love, in his view, is a feeling we cannot explain, combining the body and the soul.<\/p>\n In the sexual act, man seeks both physical and spiritual satisfaction. The unity of the couple is complete in their search for the absolute God that unites the poles of love. Then Guitton looks for love in society and in marriage in the light of the surrounding perceptions and social pressures that make it disposed to failure. Guitton confirmed that the humanization of love is thwarted by individual, collective and societal components, such as excessive narcissism, egoism, domination and inequality between men and women. The love of ownership dominates the partnership that contributes to the unity of love between the two, leading to failure in love.<\/p>\n Guitton portrays the freedom of love in its origin, in the form of divine freedom. In this light, the writer raises the following question: How can we speak about freedom of love between the couple, if the marriage was the possession of the other? Or if beaten by boredom and monotony and domination of the other… And what will be the impact on this freedom?<\/p>\n The answer in Guitton\u2019s philosophy is that there are two types of concerns: the first is to look at the other for what we lack. The second is to seek in the other the image of our own perfection. Guitton does not forget that love is exposed to temporal and psychological changes, and that the couple has many crises (jealousy, betrayal …). He addresses young people and encourages them to face the crisis of marriage by considering God the source of true love as he insists that there is no age for love. Guitton respects and appreciates women and criticizes the abuse of male society. Jesus Christ considered woman to be equal to man in all. Unfortunately, his disciples did not follow the message of their master, they were trapped by their patriarchal Jewish logic and vision of women. Happiness is the union with God in eternal life, and the love of neighbor is the art of happy living. Finally, Guitton\u2019s philosophy answers the questions of our time and determines the secret of happiness in giving and in love without limits. \nReligion is associated with social and philosophical development. The tribe imposed a collective relationship with God whereas individualism created a personal relationship with God. The author considers that God cannot be the subject of scientific research whereas the religious manifestations could be. We must relate them to all the human sciences related to religious society such as psychology, sociology, and philosophy of religion…
\nThe author discusses the problematic of tradition as an example of our approach to progress and develop into new possibilities, by adopting the divine example as a new approach, towards a new and more advanced society. Thus, the solution to the problem of heritage and modernity was lit. As for the religious rituals, it is considered by Th\u00e9odore Khoury to have a cultural and social character and is the door of dialogue between religions.
\nDialogue is listening to the other to step together, towards truth, and God is the Lord of truth.
\nThe barriers to dialogue are numerous. The most important: fanatism, lack of rootedness in faith, misconception of concepts and lack of conviction in the value of dialogue.
\nDialogue does not mean universal consensus, but rather aims at knowing the points of convergence and differences. Thus, peoples maintain their own identity, on the one hand, and coexistence with other traditions and cultures on the other.<\/p>\n
\nDr. Farah concluded her enquiry about our urgent need today for this religious philosophical thought to make our society more open, more just and more peaceful, to make our human being more human and loving.
\nAfter this, Dr. Christiane Saliba exposed Dr Farah\u2019s book issued in Paris, 2017, L\u2019Harmattan edition, ouvertures philosophiques collection, \u00ab L’amour, voie de bonheur chez Jean Guitton \u00bb. It is in three sections. The first includes philosophic theories about happiness, pleasure, and desire, and the second section talks about the dual love of Guitton. The third one is about vertical and horizontal Divine love in Guitton philosophy.<\/p>\n
\nIn old age, the age of the heart remains at the age of 20, the couple share love and sublimate sense with age.<\/p>\n
\nIn the third section, there is a philosophical study of the vertical divine love (the love of God) and the horizontal one (love of the neighbor). Both have the same importance for Guitton. Horizontal love fulfills the vertical love. The mystery of life remains the subject of his research, as well as the mystery of pain and human freedom.
