The Book Committee of the Association Reconstruire Ensemble (Rebuild Together); which has a cultural partnership with the World Cultural Commission \u2013 WLCU; \u00a0inaugurated the opening of the debate circles for 2019 last Wednesday at the theater of the Municipality of Jdeideh-Elbaouchrieh -Sed around the intellectual and what he currently bears in Lebanon in a context of geopolitical, economic, sociocultural and Globalization pressures based on Dr. Nizar Dandach’s book on “Who is the intellectual? “. The participants in this circle were Dr. Nizar Dandach, journalists Mr. Habib Younes, Mr. Georges Traboulsi, Mr. Iskandar Habach under the direction of the moderator Ms. Sana Daou.<\/p>\n

The head of the book committee Dr. Christiane Saliba opened the debate circle with a welcoming note and a presentation of the objectives and principles of this year’s debate circles. They will address topics in their current and social context as well as cultural interactions of people in the context of modern technological developments and globalization.<\/p>\n

The moderation of this circle was provided by the journalist and the radio animator Ms. Sana Daou who introduces culture as a vector of union in a society regardless of our affiliations and specialties.<\/p>\n

The journalist Habib Younes presented Dr. Dandach’s book around the intellectual in a historical contextualization and in its social and cultural importance on all societies\u2019 dimensions.<\/p>\n

Two documentaries narrated the respective closures of Dar AlSayyad and the AlSafir Journal by commenting history, causes and circumstances surrounding the closure of each of these media.<\/p>\n

Mr. Georges Traboulsi, director of the cultural pages of Annwar Newspaper and Dar AlSayyad\u2019 journals before their closure, having also held the position of editorial director of these for more than 40 years, presented a very relevant word referring to Professor Ibram X. Kendy’s speech during a PhD graduation ceremony at the University of Florida. Kendy highlighted the need for new graduates to continue their intellectual learning to the “Academy of Culture”; an academy of global knowledge accessible to all classes and social groups where we find the illiterate, the educated, the prince, the poor, the big and the small, the victim and his executioner, the governor and the governed, the prisoner and his jailer etc.; without any racial or religious discrimination. The intellectual is defined as the bearer of openness and the extraordinary energy of change<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Concerning the importance of journalism and cultural media, Traboulsi explained that the un-mediatized production of the intellectual will be volatilized and the cultural activities which are not covered by media and where journalists will be absent, will be articulated only in a closed circle with limited scope. According to Traboulsi, the crisis of the press and culture is not in the laws but in a twisted social vision of the media managers whose concern is not the interest of the citizen but the satisfaction of politicians and financial supporters. The paper press crisis is intrinsically linked to purely political and financial reasons.<\/p>\n

Mr. Iskandar Habache, author and head of the cultural page of the ALSAFIR newspaper before its closure in 2017, tackled on his side the intellectuals\u2019 crisis and expressed his bitterness towards arbitrary dismissals they undergo. He continues to write and produce as a writer far from the daily press.<\/p>\n

Dr. Nizar Dandach insisted in his speech on the purpose of his book “who is the intellectual” which is to highlight the path of the intellectual based on the societies history and archives to introduce today a new dimension that of the environmental intellectual; the one who protects the environment and advocates for the protection of the planet is also “an intellectual”.<\/p>\n

Following these interventions, an interactive discussion led by Ms. Daou was opened with the public; a high-quality public composed of intellectuals from all backgrounds; University professors, actors, artists, students, Lebanese and Arabs and especially from Iraq.<\/p>\n

Qui est l’intellectuel? Ses probl\u00e8mes et difficult\u00e9s au Liban?<\/h2>\n

Le comit\u00e9 du livre de l\u2019Association Reconstruire Ensemble, qui a une convention de partenariat culturel avec la commission mondiale culturelle de l\u2019ULCM, inaugura l\u2019ouverture des cercles d\u00e9bats pour 2019 mercredi dernier au th\u00e9\u00e2tre de la Municipalit\u00e9 de Jdeideh-Elbaouchrieh -Sed autour de l\u2019intellectuel <\/strong>et ce qu\u2019il endure actuellement au Liban dans un contexte de pressions g\u00e9opolitiques, \u00e9conomiques, socioculturelles et de Mondialisation en se basant sur le livre de Dr. Nizar Dandach sur \u00ab\u00a0Qui est l\u2019intellectuel\u00a0<\/strong>?\u00a0\u00bb. Les participants \u00e0 ce cercle furent Dr. Nizar Dandach, les journalistes M. Habib Younes, M. Georges Traboulsi, M. Iskandar Habach sous la direction de la mod\u00e9ratrice Mme Sana Daou.<\/p>\n

La responsable du comit\u00e9 du livre Dr. Christiane Saliba commen\u00e7a par un mot d\u2019accueil et un expos\u00e9 des objectifs et principes des cercles d\u00e9bats de cette ann\u00e9e. Ils traiteront des sujets dans leur contexte actuel et social ainsi que des interactions culturelles des peuples dans le cadre des \u00e9volutions technologiques modernes et de mondialisation.<\/p>\n

La direction de ce cercle fut assur\u00e9e par la Journaliste et l\u2019animatrice Radio Mme Sana Daou qui aborde dans son introduction la culture comme vecteur d\u2019union dans une soci\u00e9t\u00e9 quelles que soient nos appartenances et nos sp\u00e9cialit\u00e9s.<\/p>\n

Le journaliste Habib Younes pr\u00e9senta le livre de Dr. Dandach autour de l\u2019intellectuel dans une contextualisation historique et dans son importance sociale et culturelle dans les vies des soci\u00e9t\u00e9s.<\/p>\n

Deux documentaires t\u00e9l\u00e9vis\u00e9s ont relat\u00e9 les fermetures respectives de Dar AlSayyad et du Journal AlSafir en commentant l\u2019histoire, les causes et les circonstances de la fermeture de chacun de ces m\u00e9dias.<\/p>\n

Georges Traboulsi, directeur des pages culturelles du Journal Annwar et des revues du Dar AlSayyad avant leur fermeture, ayant occup\u00e9 \u00e9galement le poste de directeur \u00e9ditorial de celles-ci depuis plus de 40 ans, pr\u00e9senta un mot tr\u00e8s pertinent en se r\u00e9f\u00e9rant \u00e0 un discours du professeur Ibram X. Kendy dans une c\u00e9r\u00e9monie de remise des dipl\u00f4mes de Doctorat \u00e0 l\u2019Universit\u00e9 de Florida. Kendy insista sur la n\u00e9cessite des nouveaux dipl\u00f4m\u00e9s de continuer leur parcours intellectuel \u00e0 \u00ab\u00a0l\u2019acad\u00e9mie de la Culture\u00a0\u00bb\u00a0; une acad\u00e9mie de la connaissance globale et accessible \u00e0 toutes les classes et ethnies sociales o\u00f9 nous y retrouvons l\u2019analphab\u00e8te, l\u2019instruit, le prince, le pauvre, le grand et le petit, la victime et son bourreau, le gouverneur et le gouvern\u00e9, le prisonnier et son ge\u00f4lier etc.\u00a0; sans aucune diff\u00e9renciation ou discrimination raciale ou religieuse. L\u2019intellectuel est d\u00e9fini comme le porteur de l\u2019ouverture et de l\u2019extraordinaire \u00e9nergie du changement.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Concernant l\u2019importance du journalisme et des m\u00e9dias culturels, Traboulsi expliqua que la production non m\u00e9diatis\u00e9e de l\u2019intellectuel se volatilisera et les activit\u00e9s culturelles non couvertes m\u00e9diatiquement et o\u00f9 les journalistes seront absents, ne s\u2019articuleront que dans un cercle ferm\u00e9 \u00e0 port\u00e9e limit\u00e9e. Selon Traboulsi, la crise de la presse et de la culture ne r\u00e9side pas dans les lois mais dans une vision sociale tordue des responsables des m\u00e9dias dont le souci n\u2019est nullement l\u2019int\u00e9r\u00eat du citoyen mais la satisfaction des hauts responsables politiques et des financeurs. La crise de la presse papier est intrins\u00e8quement li\u00e9e \u00e0 des raisons purement politiques et financi\u00e8res.<\/p>\n

Iskandar Habache, Ecrivain et Responsable de la page culturelle du journal ALSAFIR avant sa fermeture en 2017, aborda de son c\u00f4t\u00e9 la crise des intellectuels et son amertume vis-\u00e0-vis des licenciements arbitraires qu\u2019ils subissent. Il continue \u00e0 \u00e9crire et \u00e0 produire comme \u00e9crivain loin de la presse quotidienne.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Dr. Nizar Dandach insista dans son discours sur l\u2019objectif de son livre \u00ab\u00a0qui est l\u2019intellectuel\u00a0\u00bb qui est de mettre en relief le parcours de l\u2019intellectuel dans l\u2019histoire des soci\u00e9t\u00e9s et dans les archives pour introduire aujourd\u2019hui une dimension nouvelle celle de l\u2019intellectuel environnemental\u00a0; celui qui prot\u00e8ge l\u2019environnement et pr\u00f4ne pour la protection de la plan\u00e8te est \u00e9galement \u00ab\u00a0un intellectuel\u00a0\u00bb.<\/p>\n
