The way to teach us dialect was through audios, videos, images, songs and games. They were fast classes, of constant movement, they did not allow you to be silent for a long time, the teacher surprised you with sudden questions, which produces a constant attention and learning that almost did not allow you to think the answer.

The course serves a lot, I didn’t speak anything, and now I can introduce myself, say what I did or ate the day before, count the numbers, tell the time, professions, fruits, vegetables, etc. After a few weeks it was easier for me to take taxis, check prices, go to the supermarket, situations that are super basic but that the day I arrived in Lebanon, I didn’t know how to do it and I realize that today I can. It is incredibly wonderful!

In college I always felt at home. Both the principal and the teachers were very kind and worried about us students, they are constantly organizing walks to get to know different places, and also to get to know each other – the students that came from different corners-, and this, they did during the week as weekends.
The Scholarship, filled me with learning and culture, gave me the opportunity to meet new friends and a family that I knew existed and was part of mine. Finding my origins and realizing where I come from is clarifying a part of my story and being able to answer that question after years has been the most beautiful gift.

If I had to choose a favorite moment of the trip I wonder, what would it be ?, Lebanese classes ?, Friends ?, Places I met ?, Food? know the town of my ancestors? or my family that because of life circumstances was separated? Obviously, these questions have no answer, it is impossible to choose a single moment, because it was certainly a wonderful journey from beginning to end.

As I said before, the Scholarship for me meant a lot, because it not only allowed me to study dialect, but also allowed me to meet my family and their Hadchit people. Returning after almost 90 years, and meeting nine of my mother’s first cousins was very exciting. I thought at that moment, how happy and proud my sette would be if I knew.

I always felt a lot of connection with Lebanon before this trip, but on my return that connection multiplied by thousands, it is incredible, I felt Lebanon, my home from the beginning”.

In 2019, WLCU Board of Trustees President Mr. Bechara G.
