On October 17th, 2019, WLCU World Secretary General Mr. Roger Hani and WLCU Youth Council President, Mr. Sergio de los R\u00edos Feghali, were present at the Lebanese American University Byblos Campus to officially begin a collaboration between the WLCU and the academic institution by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). The MOU was signed alongside LAU President, Dr. Joseph Jabbra, and Director of International Services, Mrs. Dina Abdul Rahman.<\/p>\n

This MOU comes after months of talks with LAU and the Summer Institute for Intensive Arabic Language and Culture (SINARC), and this summer\u2019s collaboration during the WLCUY\u2019s LEBolution trip. During the trip, the 200 participants spent a day at the university where they had the opportunity to hear about LAU\u2019s and SINARC\u2019s academic programs as well as to participate in a symposium on contemporary Lebanon.<\/p>\n

The main points of the MOU include:<\/p>\n

    \n
  • collaborative work in organizing programs and workshops related to the Arabic language and the Lebanese dialect, especially for the benefit of Lebanese emigrants;<\/li>\n
  • highlighting the importance of language in fostering ties between the Lebanese in Lebanon and abroad;<\/li>\n
  • and conducting research concerning Lebanese emigration and diaspora and stressing their significance abroad.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    This milestone represents a big step forward for the WLCU Youth, giving the chance to the members of our Youth to build and develop a strong connection with our roots, and showing tremendous potential particularly for the younger, 3rd<\/sup> and 4th<\/sup> generation emigrants whose link to Lebanon and its language has diluted over time.<\/p>\n

    The WLCU World Council for Youth extends its deepest appreciations to Dr. Jabbra; Mrs. Abdul Rahman; LAU Vice President for Student Development and Enrollment Management, Mrs. Elise Salem; and Lead SINARC Associate, Mrs. Micheline Saadeh.<\/p>\n

    El 17 de octubre de 2019, el Secretario General Mundial de la ULCM, el Sr. Roger Hani, y el Presidente del Consejo Mundial de J\u00f3venes de la ULCM, el Sr.Sergio de los R\u00edos Feghali, estuvieron presentes en el Campus de Byblos de la Lebanese American University (LAU) para comenzar oficialmente una colaboraci\u00f3n entre la ULCM y la instituci\u00f3n acad\u00e9mica al firmar un Memorando de Entendimiento (ME). El memorando se firm\u00f3 junto con el presidente de LAU, el Dr. Joseph Jabbra, y la Directora de Servicios Internacionales, la Sra. Dina Abdul Rahman.<\/p>\n

    Este memorando de entendimiento llega despu\u00e9s de meses de conversaciones con LAU y el Instituto SINARC, y la colaboraci\u00f3n de este verano durante el viaje LEBolution de la juventud ULCM. Durante el viaje, los 200 participantes pasaron un d\u00eda en la universidad donde tuvieron la oportunidad de conocer los programas acad\u00e9micos de LAU y SINARC, as\u00ed como participar un simposio sober el L\u00edbano contempor\u00e1neo.<\/p>\n

    Los puntos principales del ME incluyen:<\/p>\n

      \n
    • trabajo en conjunto en la organizaci\u00f3n de programas y talleres relacionados con el idioma \u00e1rabe y el dialecto liban\u00e9s, especialmente en beneficio de los emigrantes libaneses;<\/li>\n
    • destacar la importancia del lenguaje para fomentar los lazos entre los libaneses en el L\u00edbano y en el extranjero;<\/li>\n
    • y realizar investigaciones sobre la emigraci\u00f3n y la di\u00e1spora libanesas y enfatizar su importancia en el extranjero.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      LAU Byblos Campus<\/p><\/div>\n

      Esta ocasi\u00f3n representa un gran paso para la Juventud de la ULCM al brindar la oportunidad a los miembros de nuestra Juventud de construir y desarrollar una fuerte conexi\u00f3n con nuestras ra\u00edces. Tambi\u00e9n presenta un enorme potencial particularmente para los emigrantes m\u00e1s j\u00f3venes de tercera y cuarta generaci\u00f3n cuyo v\u00ednculo con el L\u00edbano y su lenguaje se ha diluido con el tiempo.<\/p>\n
