As a non-governmental organization with consultative status at the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), the WLCU strongly condemns the repeated attacks against the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) in South Lebanon, which have targeted both personnel and equipment in several areas in recent weeks.<\/p>\n

These attacks constitute a blatant violation of relevant international resolutions, particularly United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701. They endanger the security and stability of the region and undermine the international community\u2019s ability to support Lebanese sovereignty and protect its borders.<\/p>\n

WLCU reaffirms its full solidarity with UN peacekeeping forces and:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Urges the Lebanese government to take all necessary measures to protect UNIFIL personnel and ensure their freedom of movement in accordance with bilateral agreements and international law.<\/li>\n
  2. Calls on the countries contributing to peacekeeping operations to support these forces through the necessary political, diplomatic, and military means to guarantee their protection.<\/li>\n
  3. Calls on the Security Council to adopt a clear and firm stance and to grant peacekeeping forces an explicit mandate to act in self-defense, ensuring the implementation of Resolution 1701 and the preservation of peace and stability in South Lebanon.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    WLCU, representing the Lebanese diaspora in over forty countries, believes that Lebanon\u2019s stability can only be achieved through the full implementation of all international resolutions\u2014especially the exclusive possession of arms by the Lebanese Armed Forces and legitimate security institutions, and by upholding the role of the United Nations in maintaining peace.<\/p>\n
