WLCU Press release denouncing the barbaric attacks in Ain Alaq, Feb 14th 07

The World Lebanese Cultural Union (WLCU) denounces the barbaric attacks on two civilian buses in Ain Alaq, in the Matn region in Lebanon. The attack that has left three civilians dead and twenty injured is yet another attempt to hinder the stability in our homeland and create chaos that would eventually lead to an internal strife. The WLCU considers this terrorist act, on the eve of February 14th commemoration of the late PM Hariri’s assassination, an assault aiming to deter the  Lebanese citizen from participating in the anticipated Martyrs Square’s event. This is the first time in years when average civilians are being targeted rather than political figures. The WLCU also considers this criminal bombing as another message to the Minister of Defense Elias El Murr who bravely confiscated a truckload of heavy weapons headed to Hizbollah few days ago. Ain Alaq being a village neighboring Minister Murr hometown.
On behalf of the Lebanese Diaspora, the WLCU offers its condolences to the families of the victims, calls for solidarity among our people, reiterating its call for justice to be served through the international tribunal, urging the UN security Council to help control the Lebanese Syrian border and block the inflow of weapons from that neighboring country.
