What does Jomali mean to us? Jomali was created to honor the memory of each Lebanese immigrant in Mexico; our lives are the result of their effort and sacrifice. Thanks to them, today we can say with pride that we are part of the huge Mexican-Lebanese family. They are the main inspiration that makes us work day by day to create a space for the Lebanese youth in Mexico.

For three decades, Jomali has brought together more than one thousand Lebanese youngsters in Mexico. In Jomali, we have found a place we can call home, a family, friends, siblings, the love of our lives and memories that will always be in our minds.

In November, our XXXI National Convention took place and, around 150 Lebanese descendants arrived from each corner of our country. We had people from several states such as Merida, Campeche, Tabasco, Chiapas, Veracruz, Puebla, DF, Estado de Mexico, Guanajuato, Michoacan, Nuevo Leon, Chihuahua, Hidalgo, San Luis Potosí, Tlaxcala, Tamaulipas, and Guadalajara. As always, we had a great time sharing our customs and our family stories. Our Lebanese friends from Guadalajara embraced us, showed us great places of their city and made us feel at home.

A lot of emotions and feelings touch our hearts every time Jomali gets together, it is a great occasion to be back in touch with old friends and meet new ones. It is really difficult to find the correct words to express something as amazing as it is. One of the best moments of Guadalajara happened the last day. No one wanted to be the first to say goodbye and instead of doing so, a friend brought his derbake and, in the middle of the most elegant dinner, he started to play it. Suddenly, everyone started to dancedabke around him and no one stopped until our feet were really hurt and it was impossible to carry on.

We could write thousands of words recalling moments of Jomali, but we would just like to finish with a quote that has been around for several generations that expresses the purest mantra of Jomali: “Yesterday we were friends; today we are more than siblings.”Jomali is not an NGO; JOMALI is a family that lives because of the immigrants’ love to their beloved country… LEBANON.
