Honoring of WLCU WP Alejandro Kuri Pheres by the Mexican Academy of International Law – 4 September 2014

WLCU President Alejandro Kuri Pheres was accepted and honored by the Mexican Academy of International Law on September 4th of 2014.

In a solemn ceremony, he presented his thesis called “THE SYRIAN REFUGEES AND THE SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC IMPACT IN THE LEBANESE REPUBLIC”; it was unanimously approved by the academic council and applauded by the more of 200 guests that attended the event.

In his thesis, Alejandro Kuri Pheres, PHD, talked about the difficult situation of the more of 1.5 Syrian refugees in the Lebanese territory and the economic, social and political cost that the Lebanese country and government has to pay for this matter.

He also exposed about the generosity of Lebanon and the lack of efficient and quick response of the United Nations and the international community to resolve this huge problem. He demands that the United Nations has to honor the 6.5 billion dollar aid that they offered and that has to be given by all the NGOs and the Lebanese government because Lebanon cannot continue to finance the expenses that this matter causes to them.

Mr. Kuri also said that he demands to stop the Syrian conflict and this way the Syrian refugees could return to their country and continue with their lives.

A week ago, Alejandro Kuri Pheres, PHD, presented this thesis in the United Nations in New York with a group of members of the WLCU, and all the audience agreed to this matter.

This massive event in Mexico City started at 7 pm in Byblos Ballroom in the Lebanese Center. All the audience entered the room followed by the directors of the Academic council presided by Mr. Manuel Reguera Rodriguez PHD who presented Mr. Kuri in a formal manner as a new member of the Academy. The war band of the ministry of Mexico City security played the national hymn and honors to the Mexican and Lebanese flags.

Mr. Manuel Diaz Infante, Minister and PHD bylaw in Mexico, read the extense Curriculum of Mr. Kuri, including of course, his trajectory in the Mexican – Lebanese community and the world until his new post as world president of the WLCU. During this presentation they honored also Mr. Domingo Kuri and Mr. Anuar Kuri Adam, grandfather and father of our president whom dedicated their entire life to work for Lebanon and the Mexican – Lebanese community in Mexico and the world.

In this ceremony all Mr. Kuri family and dearest friends were there, such as his mother, brother and sister; his wife, Nancy; and his daughters, Nicole and Alejandra.

Also personalities such as the sub-secretary of the foreign affairs ministry, monsignor Georges Saad Abi Younes, maronite bishop of Mexico; Mr. Georges Bechara, former president of the WLCU, the former ambassador of Lebanon in Mexico, Nouhad Mahmoud, who gave the official feedback of the thesis presented; The ambassador of Palestine in Mexico, Mr. Munjed Saleh and the president of the Mexican – Lebanese chamber of entrepreneurs, Mr. Alfredo Miguel Afif.
