وجّه الرئيس العالمي للجامعة اللبنانية الثقافية في العالم نبيه الشرتوني، رسالة بمناسبة ذكرى الاستقلال، جاء فيها: “أعزائي أبناء الوطن في الاغتراب وفي لبنان، ينتاب الاغتراب اللبناني ارتباك غضوب لما يحدث في الوطن الأم لبنان، وقد فرغت كلمة استقلال من كل معنى، وباتت مسخا أجوف غادرته السيادة والبحبوحة والطمأنينة.
لبنان أمام العالم كان دولة نموذجية تتعايش فيه الاديان الثلاثة ومذاهبها، والعقائد السياسية المختلفة، وحيث التعدد والاختلاف كان غنى. لكن مناخ الحرية استُغل من عقائد أضحت عبئا، لا بل خطرا على الوطن، لذا ينتابنا هذا القلق الممزوج بالألم. لكن، وبالرغم من كل ذلك، فإن الأمل يبقى معقودا على جامع واحد لكل اللبنانيين، عنيت: محبة لبنان، بالرغم من ان الفرقاء يُظهرون هذه المحبة في كثير من الأحيان وفق مصالحهم والأهواء.
أتساءل ما إذا كان لبنان يتمتع بالحكم الذاتي في اتخاذ قراراته وأحكامه مالكا الحرية الكاملة في تثبيت قوانينه الخاصة وفرض سلطته كدولة ذات سيادة.
وأتساءل الآن ما الذي تبقى من لبناننا المستقل والفريد.
فهل بالصراعات نحافظ على الاستقلال، ولقد ناضل من أجله عظماء من تاريخنا، خلال نزاع دام عدة قرون على الطريق التي خطتها عائلتا معن وشهاب واستمر بنفس الروح بعد الحرب العالمية الاولى من قبل البطريرك حويك وغيره من الأحرار الذين كانوا يتوقون الى وطن نهائي مستقل بحدوده التاريخية.
لم يكن لرجالات الاستقلال سنة 1943 أن يحققوا حلم اللبنانيين بدولة مستقلة، لو لم يتكوكب حولهم اللبنانيون متحدين، ومن كل الطوائف، واستطاعوا ان يبنوا دولة ناشئة حرة، واقتصادا مزهرا أشاع البحبوحة، وجعل من بيروت باريس الشرق، والمركز الاقتصادي المهم فيه.
كانت الإرادة الجماعية آنذاك للشعب الذي يتوق إلى هوية ودولة مستقلة.
ونرانا اليوم نردد، وبأسف، ماذا بقي من الاستقلال؟ ولمَ نعاني من هذا الانهيار المالي والاقتصادي؟
أين حرية الرأي سمة لبنان الحضارية؟ ومن هو المسؤول لنلقي اللوم عليه؟
كلنا مذنبين. نبكي اليوم تفكك المؤسسات والانهيار الشامل، ونبكي موجات الهجرة الزاحفة نحو المغتربات.
إننا، في الجامعة اللبنانية الثقافية في العالم، إذ نقف بحزن على أشلاء مرفأ بيروت، التي هي صورة عن أشلاء الوطن اليوم، نجدد ايماننا بالشعب اللبناني، وبقدرته على النهوض مجددا، كطائر الفنيق من بين الانقاض، نوجه نداء عاجلا الى اللبنانيين المقيمين والمهاجرين والحكومة اللبنانية للعمل معا من أجل استرجاع استقلال لبنان.
أجدادنا صنعوا الاستقلال، ولا يغيب عن البال القول المأثور: “الاستقلال يؤخذ ولا يعطى”.
ولقد حصلنا عليه، فلنعتني بالميثاق الوطني، ولنعمل معا للحفاظ على هذه الهوية اللبنانية، إنها رمز عزنا وافتخارنا”.
The Independence message of the WLCU WP Nabih Chartouni:
Dear compatriots in the Diaspora and Lebanon,
During these turbulent times, the Lebanese Diaspora is confused by what is happening in their country – Lebanon – and by the deterioration of the meaning of the word “independence”.
Before, everywhere in the world, Lebanon was a model country, where three religions with their numerous branches coexisted, as well as the different political convictions of everyone, where pluralism and differences were rich and celebrated.
However, the climate of freedom has been recently exploited by destructive ideologies, which have subsequently become a burden and a threat to the Homeland, although the parties usually demonstrate this love according to their interests and whims.
Everyone then demonstrates their adherence and patriotism at their convenience, whether political or ideological.
Therefore, I wonder if Lebanon is truly autonomous in its decisions and arrangements, with the freedom to enforce its own laws, and impose its authority as a sovereign nation.
I also wonder, what remains of our independent and unique Lebanon.
The Men of Independence, in 1943, would not have achieved the Lebanese dream of an independent state, could not have built an emerging free state, as well as a flourishing economy that spread prosperity, if the Lebanese of all faiths were not united around them, and so does Beirut, the “Paris of the East” and this city, the important economic center that we have known in the past.
Unfortunately, we are currently hearing voices asking: “What remains of this independence?” “, Or “Where did the economic boom and the prosperity of Lebanon go? “So what happened to the freedom of opinion? Who are we to blame?
All of us! We are all guilty of the disintegration of institutions, of the destruction and above all, for the new massive wave of young people who are leaving their homeland, families, and emigrating to wherever they are granted a visa so to “flee” this evil political, economic and social situation currently gripping our beloved Lebanon.
We, at the World Lebanese Cultural Union are greatly saddened by the senseless destruction of the port of Beirut and hundreds of neighboring properties, the massive human toll between dead and injured which paints a sad picture of the current situation. We however renew our faith in the Lebanese people, and in their historic ability to rise like the phoenix from the ashes.
We urge all Lebanese residents, emigrants and the government to work together to restore the independence of Lebanon.
Our ancestor’s forged Independence: let us not forget the old adage: “Independence is not given, it is taken.” And we will take it back.
Let us therefore watch over the National Pact, work together to preserve this Lebanese identity. It is a symbol of our pride and honor.
