Memo – Follow up of New York World Council Meeting – English – 16 April 2009

World Lebanese Cultural Union – Secretariat General
Memorandum – Nbr 2009/04-01 – Paris on April 15th, 09

Dear WLCU officers and members,

In the beginning and in the name of the World body, I would like to thank New York Chapter for hosting the last World Council that took place on March 21st and 22nd 2009, and for the wonderful hospitality and organization that its officers expressed and showed.

As to follow up the resolution of this World Council meeting I would like to remind you about some subjects that we agreed to work on them very shortly. It is very crucial for the image of the WLCU that all the chapters deal with every point below:

1- The International Festival of the Lebanese Emigrants:
Provide the Secretariat General with the names of delegates in the countries and the states who want to participate in this festival from 9 to 19 of July 2009.
I understand the difficulties you could have to provide us with participants, thus I advise you to propose this project to one or several travel agencies which usually deal with the Lebanese destination.
The WLCU must contribute in this festival, so please put all your efforts to contribute to its success.
Waiting for your answers, in order for me to inform the Committee of the International Festival;

You can consult the full program on   www.lebanese-emigrants.org    as following:
Click on: International Festival / Daily program / then choose your language

2- Miss Lebanon Emigrant 2009:
Provide the Secretariat General with the names of officials in the countries and States that wish to participate in order for the Miss Lebanon Committee send them the essential mandates and in order for us to be able to find a solution to some of the names with the president of the Committee, especially after he appointed certain persons in some countries which we represented the last year. Other details will be delivered soon.

We give all our support to Ontario, Vancouver and UK who already decided to participate in this contest.
We invite all the other chapters to do the same as soon as possible.

3- Following the resolutions of the World Council meeting that took place in New York on 21 and 22 of March 2009, the holding of the 16th World Conference should be at the 24th of October at maximum; But We could be obliged to make it before.

Following the Bylaws, are allowed to vote in the 2009 world congress, the chapters that were registered with the World Secretary General 5 months before, and that they paid their dues of 2007 and 2008 three months before the World congress meeting.
That’s why I invite all the Regional Secretaries General to send to me as soon as possible all the applications of the new chapters and I ask all the Regional treasurers to send to the World treasurer the chapters dues of 2007 and 2008 without any delay please.

4- Following the resolutions of the last World council meeting, the next world council will take place in Vancouver from Friday June 12th to Saturday June 14th, after the elections in Lebanon and before that the World President delegation visits our mother country as every summer.

WLCU -BCC leaders and the Simon Fraser University set 13 June as the day of celebrating the 125 anniversary of Khalil Gibran.
Thus WLCU -BCC would like our worldwide leaders to attend with their family this event: preliminary program is as follows:
– Vancouver on Friday June 12th (probably a French evening with Henri Zoughaib at the Alliance française),
– Saturday 13th: inauguration of Gibran memorial, reception and Lebanese hafli,
– Sunday 14th: hopefully we will go to Victoria to inaugurate the statue of the Lebanese emigrant.   (Leaving early in the day and coming back same day trip is by boat).

Please inform us if you will or will not attend.
We will send official invitations later with all details.
