World Lebanese Cultural Union
The World Lebanese Cultural Union in the United Kingdom held an official celebration on the occasion of Lebanese Independence Day, distinguished by high-level diplomatic, political, and cultural attendance, and an atmosphere that reflected the deep connection of the Lebanese community in the UK to their homeland.
The President of the WLCU UK National Council, Mr. Said Yazbek, the President of the London Chapter, Mrs. Bayan Al-Aawar Sayagh, and the administrative committee members welcomed a select group of official figures, including:
- Her Excellency Farah Berri, Lebanon’s Ambassador to the United Kingdom
• Mr. Marwan Francis, Deputy Head of Mission
• Mr. Bassam Mahfouz, Member of the London Council
• Father Johnny Matar, Head of the Maronite Mission in the United Kingdom
• Mr. Georges Abi Raad, former WLCU World Secretary-General, representing the World President, Mr. Roger Hani.
The event also featured the participation of representatives from several political, social, and charitable organizations, including the Kataeb Party, the Lebanese Forces, the Progressive Socialist Party, and the British Druze Society, in addition to the notable presence of various economic and social figures influential within the community.
The program began with the British and Lebanese national anthems, followed by welcoming and official speeches. Mrs. Al-Aawar welcomed the attending delegations, while Mr. Abi Raad delivered the speech of the WLCU President, in which he emphasized:
“Independence, for the Lebanese diaspora, is a milestone that reflects our belief in our ability to support our homeland. Every achievement abroad, every act of solidarity, and every effort to preserve our identity is a genuine contribution to safeguarding Lebanon’s sovereignty and strengthening hope in its future.”
Mr. Yazbek then presented an overview of the three strategic programs the National Council in the UK is working on in coordination with the WLCU World Council:
- The “LEBolution” Program, dedicated to enable youth of Lebanese origin to visit their mother country and discover its cultural heritage
- Miss Lebanon Emigrant 2026 Contest
- The Lebanese Diaspora Digital Card, designed to strengthen connections with Lebanese worldwide and to provide the cardholders a range of benefits and discounts through partners across various sectors
The program also included a traditional dinner accompanied by segments of Lebanese folkloric music, giving the occasion a distinguished cultural atmosphere.
الجامعة اللبنانية الثقافية في العالم في المملكة المتحدة تحتفل بعيد الاستقلال اللبناني بحضور دبلوماسي وسياسي وثقافي رفيع المستوى.
أقامت الجامعة اللبنانية الثقافية في العالم في المملكة المتحدة احتفالًا رسميًا بمناسبة عيد الاستقلال اللبناني، تميّز بحضور ديبلوماسي وسياسي وثقافي رفيع المستوى، وبأجواء تعبّر عن عمق ارتباط الجالية اللبنانية في المملكة المتحدة بوطنها الأم.
وقد استقبل رئيس المجلس الوطني للجامعة في المملكة المتحدة، السيد سعيد يزبك، ورئيسة فرع لندن، السيدة بيان الأعور صايغ، وأعضاء الهيئة الإدارية، نخبة من الشخصيات الرسمية، في طليعتهم:
• سعادة السفيرة فرح بري، سفيرة لبنان لدى المملكة المتحدة
• السيد مروان فرنسيس، نائب رئيس البعثة والمستشار الاول في السفارة
• السيد بسام محفوظ، عضو مجلس لندن
• الأب جوني مطر، رئيس البعثة المارونية في المملكة المتحدة
• السيد جورج أبي رعد، الأمين العام العالمي السابق للجامعة اللبنانية الثقافية في العالم، ممثلاً للرئيس العالمي السيد روجيه هاني
كما شهد الحفل مشاركة ممثلين عن عدد من الأحزاب والمؤسسات السياسية والاجتماعية والخيرية، منها حزب الكتائب والقوات اللبنانية والحزب التقدمي الاشتراكي والجمعية الدرزية البريطانية، فضلًا عن حضور بارز لعدد من الشخصيات الاقتصادية والاجتماعية المؤثرة في الجالية.
استُهلّ البرنامج الرسمي بالنشيدين الوطنيين البريطاني واللبناني، تلت ذلك كلمات ترحيبية ورسمية. رحّبت السيدة الأعور بالوفود المشاركة، فيما نقل السيد أبي رعد كلمة رئيس الجامعة التي أكد فيها أن:
“الاستقلال بالنسبة إلى الانتشار اللبناني هو محطة تعكس إيماننا بقدرتنا على دعم وطننا، فكل إنجاز في الاغتراب، وكل مبادرة تضامنية، وكل جهد للحفاظ على هويتنا، يشكل مساهمة فعلية في صون سيادة لبنان وتعزيز الأمل بمستقبله.”
بعدها، قدّم السيد يزبك عرضًا للبرامج الاستراتيجية الثلاثة التي يعمل عليها المجلس الوطني في المملكة المتحدة بالتنسيق مع المجلس العالمي للجامعة، وهي:
-برنامج “لبوليوشن” المخصص لتمكين الشباب من أصل لبناني من زيارة وطنهم الأم والتعرّف إلى إرثه الثقافي
-مسابقة ملكة جمال المغترب اللبناني لعام 2026
-البطاقة الرقمية للانتشار اللبناني، التي تهدف إلى تعزيز التواصل مع اللبنانيين حول العالم عبر تقديم باقة من الامتيازات والحسومات من خلال شركاء من مختلف القطاعات.
كما شمل البرنامج عشاءً تقليديًا ترافق مع فقرات من الأغاني التراثية اللبنانية، مما أضفى على المناسبة طابعًا ثقافيًا مميزًا.
